The White House Historical Association's 2021 Official White House Christmas Ornament commemorates the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson. Mrs. Johnson requested that Robert H. Laessig, a designer for American Greetings, paint the official Christmas tree in the Blue Room for their card that year. The 1967 White House Christmas card was sent out by President and Mrs. Johnson to White House staff members, family, and friends. Though the ornaments themselves are conceived by a new designer every year, they have been manufactured since the beginning of the program by ChemArt, a veteran-founded small business in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Both the front and reverse side of the ornament feature peace doves, symbolic of President Carter’s work for peace in the Middle East, and perhaps most significantly, the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty signed on the North Lawn of the White House on March 26, 1979. On the reverse side of the ornament is the Seawolf-class USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23). The globe at the center refers to Carter’s lifelong work on environmental conservation.
